Inspiring a love of learning

“Inspiring a love of learning”

‘The lessons and the teachers are really good and I’ve made so many more friends since starting the sixth form’ Emily, Year 12

‘I’ve been able to achieve a level of independence but still rely on the support of staff I know when I’ve needed it’ Beth, Year 13

‘To begin with I was nervous about meeting new people but everyone has been welcoming. The subjects I chose are right for me and the teachers are helpful. Coming here was the right decision’ A new student who started in Yr 12

“I taught in several schools and I was only blessed with sons but I firmly believe that if I had a daughter I would want her to go to this school because I am aware at first hand of the dedication of all of its staff to the care and education of the girls. This school does realise that it is precious cargo that it carries.” A former teacher

Japan 2016

The departure date for the Japan 16 Trip is Tuesday 18th October 2016. Eight girls from Beverley High School will join with another 14 pupils from Hornsea School and Beverley Grammar School for the 18th year of links with Keiai Gakuen High School in Chiba, Japan. Following from the very successful Japan 15 trip which was the first visit by pupil in 6 years we have improved the trip further. The dates of travel have been altered to allow pupils more time to adjust to life with a Japanese family whilst seeing their peers during the day before the weekend in which they will be with their hosts all day. The itinerary has also been adapted to avoid the pupils having dead time in school and therefore they have more chance to experience Japan, its people and culture.

On Wednesday 15th June we had a Japanese Culture Day. An opportunity to meet the other pupils on the trip and learn about the Japanese culture. Pupils tried Sushi making at Oginos restaurant and had a question and answer session with Reiko one of the owners. The tasting of the Japanese dishes was particularly popular. This was followed by a presentation from representatives of Nippon Gohsei, who have a plant locally. It was nice that the company volunteered their services and that some of the representatives were parents of past-pupils of the school. The talk was very informative and the Japanese members of the Nippon Gohsei staff helped the pupils with speaking Japanese and the art of using chopsticks.
