Inspiring a love of learning

“Inspiring a love of learning”

‘The lessons and the teachers are really good and I’ve made so many more friends since starting the sixth form’ Emily, Year 12

‘I’ve been able to achieve a level of independence but still rely on the support of staff I know when I’ve needed it’ Beth, Year 13

‘To begin with I was nervous about meeting new people but everyone has been welcoming. The subjects I chose are right for me and the teachers are helpful. Coming here was the right decision’ A new student who started in Yr 12

“I taught in several schools and I was only blessed with sons but I firmly believe that if I had a daughter I would want her to go to this school because I am aware at first hand of the dedication of all of its staff to the care and education of the girls. This school does realise that it is precious cargo that it carries.” A former teacher

Physical Education

Meet the teachers:

Mrs E Owen - Head of PE -

Mrs R Calcutt - Assistant Headteacher and Teacher of PE -

Miss C Easter - Teacher of PE -

Mrs H Callan - Teacher of PE  -

In the Physical Education department we strive for all students to have an enjoyable experience, thus providing pupils with a broad range of opportunities in sport. All pupils at key stage three have two, one hour Physical Education lessons per week.

In Year 7 the focus is based on acquiring skills from each activity with the basic rules being taught in games activities. We move on to developing these skills in Year 8 and introduce more complex rules in the game situation before teaching pupils the tactics of games at Year 9.

Pupils are given the opportunity to participate in gymnastics lessons which develop through each year group from floor apparatus to bars and beam apparatus. Dance is taught to girls in Year 7 with the focus being on rock and roll and in Year 8 we move on to carnivals in Brazil.

Throughout KS3, girls are provided with a fitness option where they are taught how to test different areas of fitness and this develops on to a variety of training methods being taught in Year 8 and 9 PE lessons. Athletics is an area of the curriculum that we teach throughout KS3 and it follows through to KS4. The table below is an example of the activities taught at KS3.
