Inspiring a love of learning

“Inspiring a love of learning”

‘The lessons and the teachers are really good and I’ve made so many more friends since starting the sixth form’ Emily, Year 12

‘I’ve been able to achieve a level of independence but still rely on the support of staff I know when I’ve needed it’ Beth, Year 13

‘To begin with I was nervous about meeting new people but everyone has been welcoming. The subjects I chose are right for me and the teachers are helpful. Coming here was the right decision’ A new student who started in Yr 12

“I taught in several schools and I was only blessed with sons but I firmly believe that if I had a daughter I would want her to go to this school because I am aware at first hand of the dedication of all of its staff to the care and education of the girls. This school does realise that it is precious cargo that it carries.” A former teacher

Modern Foreign Languages

If you have any concerns, please contact using emails provided above.

All of our staff are highly motivated and enthusiastic linguists who all teach either French or German at A Level. We are passionate about creating a love of learning languages and developing a broader understanding of cultural capital in all pupils. We believe that learning goes further than just what we teach in the classroom, it’s also about what we do outside of the classroom that helps to develop a child’s breadth of knowledge and understanding on the language and its culture. We work hard to ensure that all of our pupils have the possibility to try out new things and take part in opportunities that enhance their learning while having fun at the same time.

Learning a foreign language provides an opening to other cultures and enables pupils to deepen their understanding of the world. In Year 7 pupils will study either French or German. They will continue to study this language in Years 8 and 9 with the opportunity to study a second language for some pupils. Our teaching aims to ensure that pupils are able to speak and write in the foreign language to express themselves and that they can understand and respond to written texts and conversations. Pupils will study a variety of topics and grammar points during key stage 3. These topics will include:

  • Family and friends
  • Hobbies
  • Where I live
  • Holidays
  • Eating and healthy lifestyle
  • Shopping
  • Celebrations
