Inspiring a love of learning

“Inspiring a love of learning”

‘The lessons and the teachers are really good and I’ve made so many more friends since starting the sixth form’ Emily, Year 12

‘I’ve been able to achieve a level of independence but still rely on the support of staff I know when I’ve needed it’ Beth, Year 13

‘To begin with I was nervous about meeting new people but everyone has been welcoming. The subjects I chose are right for me and the teachers are helpful. Coming here was the right decision’ A new student who started in Yr 12

“I taught in several schools and I was only blessed with sons but I firmly believe that if I had a daughter I would want her to go to this school because I am aware at first hand of the dedication of all of its staff to the care and education of the girls. This school does realise that it is precious cargo that it carries.” A former teacher

Our Curriculum:

At Key Stage 3 teaching follows the National Curriculum. In Year 7 pupils start with a brief introduction, ‘What is History?’ and then go on to study Ancient Rome and Britain 1066-1500. All pupils continue with British History in Year 8, studying the Tudors and Stuarts followed by Britain 1750-1900. Year 9 pupils start with The Twentieth Century World, The Titanic, the causes of W1 and WW2, The Holocaust and The Rise of Terror Tactics in the Modern World. Pupils are taught in mixed ability tutor groups.

The subject is a very popular option choice at GCSE, usually attracting high numbers of students. Again, the students are taught in mixed ability classes. The Edexcel History syllabus is followed with units on:

  • Medicine 1250-Present Day including the British sector of the Western Front 1914- 1918: injuries, treatment and the trenches ;
  • Early Elizabethan England 1558-1588
  • The American West
  • Weimar Germany and Nazi Germany, 1919-39;
