Inspiring a love of learning

“Inspiring a love of learning”

‘The lessons and the teachers are really good and I’ve made so many more friends since starting the sixth form’ Emily, Year 12

‘I’ve been able to achieve a level of independence but still rely on the support of staff I know when I’ve needed it’ Beth, Year 13

‘To begin with I was nervous about meeting new people but everyone has been welcoming. The subjects I chose are right for me and the teachers are helpful. Coming here was the right decision’ A new student who started in Yr 12

“I taught in several schools and I was only blessed with sons but I firmly believe that if I had a daughter I would want her to go to this school because I am aware at first hand of the dedication of all of its staff to the care and education of the girls. This school does realise that it is precious cargo that it carries.” A former teacher

Our aims and objectives

  • To advance the education of the pupils of the school
  • To develop more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school
  • To engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the pupils attending it
  • To provide and assist in the provision of such facilities or items for education at the school (not provided from statutory funds) as the Committee in consultation with the Governing Body shall from time to time determine.
  • Membership consists of all parents and guardians of pupils attending the school and all Teachers, Governors and Ancillary Staff.
  • Committee meetings will be held at least once each term.

What we do:

Raises money mainly through fun events including:

  • Summer Car Boots – as well as organising the actual events we also provide refreshments for stall holders and members of the public.:
  • Spring Music Recital Evening, – a wonderful evening of music performed by the students in preparation for their exams. The Friends provide refreshments and a small raffle for this event. Art Exhibition, – an exhibition of exam pieces and an opportunity to buy original pieces of art!
  • Christmas Craft Fair – a well established community event with over 60 stalls providing a variety of high quality Christmas gifts, decorations and cards.

How do we choose what to spend the money on?

  • We involve the students through the Student Council in deciding upon how the money is spent.
  • Staff will put forward ideas for items that will benefit the students.
  • Governors are consulted on a shortlist of suggestions.
  • The main criteria is that the money should be used to provide equipment that enhances the student experience and is not something that will be provided by the local authority.
